Charlotte Landscape Tips - Hiring an Arborist

Charlotte Landscape Tips - Hiring an Arborist

Our SouthPark home backs up to a lush, green tree-save area. The tree-save area is actually part of our lot but, we cannot build upon it, nor can the neighbors to the back or the sides of us. This affords a great deal of privacy and an unexpected experience with nature, right in the heart of the city, which we enjoy each and every day.

Nature in your own backyard - in the heart of Charlotte

If your lot is part of a tree-save area or your lot backs up to a tree-save area in Mecklenburg County, we highly recommend hiring an arborist to assess the health of those trees each year. We recently had this done and found that we had a dead 150' Poplar tree that had been struck by lightening and had to be removed. It was heart-breaking to watch but, better to be taken down in a controlled environment than by nature...and have it fall into a house.

*This was the smaller tree base (above) that was attached to the larger one (below). It was taken down first...then the larger base (the tree had already been heavily topped to reduce the height of the two bases):

One very important thing to know about these tree-save areas, if your arborist finds a tree that needs to be removed, you MUST HAVE THE REMOVAL APPROVED BY THE CITY FIRST! Because our tree was dead and not 'questionable,' the city made an appointment within 24 hours and gave us approval same-day. Normally, if there is a question as to the tree's health, they will give you a 2-week time-line, sending out their arborist during that time.

For a list of our preferred arborists, give me a call at (704) 491-3310.

To contact the county's arborist, reach out to Miriam (below).

Tree care is a serious matter that, if maintained annually, can prevent a natural disaster in your own backyard. Keep the trees healthy and you'll savor living among nature, whether you're in the city with tree-save areas in your backyard or in the suburbs on extensive wooded lots.
