Thankfulness (DAY 9) - Flowers, Glorious Nature!
There are three things I love about flowers - cultivating them, appreciating the beauty of them in my garden (as well as cut and in my home) and last but, certainly not least, the gift of flowers - making someone feel special with a gift of flowers.
Just living is not enough…one must have sunshine, freedom and a little flower. - Hans Christian Andersen
Happiness radiates like the one fragrance from a flower and draws all good things towards you. - Maharishi Mahesh Yogi
Every flower is a soul blossoming in nature. - Gerard DeNeryal
Be honest, be nice, be a flower, not a weed. - Aaron Neville
Happiness held is the seed; happiness shared is the flower. - John Harrigan
Nature offers us so much to be thankful for and today, it’s flowers for me! I have to say, I appreciate them each and every day - and I do so, consciously! I pull into my driveway and there are always flowers in the front of my home - always! Flowers lift the spirit and I consciously notice the beauty of them every single day of the year, no matter the season.
Gardening has been a passion of mine since I was a little girl - my Dad could create magic in the yard…and in very little time! He was a workaholic and on his days that he did take off, we always spent a little time in the yard. Cultivating the ‘end product’ is something that I absolutely love doing - planting the seeds and waiting, with anticipation, as nature runs her course; first a tiny sprout, then the stems, the leaves and then the buds. The ‘little girl’ in me can’t WAIT to see those buds open into glorious, colorful beauty!
Every morning I check my backyard as I take my dogs out and I love to catch a surprise bloom (or blooms) when I wasn’t expecting to see a new bloom. It’s so rewarding as well as relaxing, especially considering the crazy, fast-paced lives we lead. We really do need to take the time to stop and smell the roses - daily!
Studies have shown that the gift of flowers is truly spirt-lifting; receiving a glorious bouquet of flowers actually affects us emotionally - in fact, it creates instant happiness according to some studies! My hubby loves surprising me with flowers - and it doesn’t have to be on a special occasion - and I, for one, can attest to the fact that they really do make your spirits soar! Every time you pass the bouquet, whether they are aromatic or not, they really do put a smile on your face!
So, cultivate, appreciate and give nature's most beautiful eye candy - flowers!
If you think you don't have a green thumb, that’s okay, visit your local nursery and add some color to your front door or your patio. You’ll enjoy the visual each and every day that they are in bloom! Oh and, don’t forget to water them!
As always, I am ever so thankful for nature's beauty - today, flowers !
Thank you, Debbie Reynolds, for your 12-days of Thanksgiving challenge!
