Bananas Over Chiquita!
Charlotte has gone absolutely bananas over the announcement that Chiquita is reloacting its headquarters to the Queen City!
No more is our claim that Charlotte is the Top Banana in North Carolina just a figure of speech, it’s literal now! Another Fortune 1000 company, Chiquita is making its way into the Uptown Charlotte area with new headquarters in the NASCAR Hall of Fame tower. We never expected to be known as a ‘tropical paradise’ either but, with the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce and Governor Bev Perdue’s recent announcement, we ARE!
In a recent interview with Chiquita’s CEO, Fernando Aguirre stated, "Charlotte provided the most compelling economic opportunity for Chiquita by far and the region is a very attractive region for our employees." He also added that, "99% of what we hear on Twitter is positive and of course the Charlotte community was very proactive in Twitter and very positive” - a highly progressive company has chosen one of the most progressive, high-tech cities in the Nation in which to do business! (#Chiquita)
Chiquita, who is investing $14,000,000 in the Charlotte area, plans to bring around 400 jobs to the Queen City; half of those jobs will be new hires from the Charlotte area. The annual average salary for these positions will be $106,000. These new jobs will include management positions, sales, marketing and IT jobs, expected to be nearly complete by mid-summer, 2012. The administrative offices as well as the research and development department will be moved to Charlotte’s Uptown area.
Why did the Chiquita CEO Fernando Aguirre choose Charlotte as the top banana? The business climate, Charlotte Douglas International Airport (one of the highest ranked airports in America) and Charlotte’s quality of life were all factors that made the Queen City a convincing ‘sale’ to Chiquita executives.
As an added bonus for the Queen City, Chiquita will be providing Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools with 15 salad bars in district school cafeterias--truly a tropical paradise for our community children!
Charlotte is bananas over Chiquita making Charlotte’s ‘top banana’ status go from figurative to literal! Welcome to Charlotte Chiquita!
