The City of Charlotte is growing next month! Charlotte City Council's approval of the annexation of 2,434 acres of unincorparated land in the Charlotte area, includes approximately 4,100 residents within three unincorporated areas in Mecklenburg County and will be effective June 30.
The annexation areas which will be incorporated include:
»Rhyne, 289-acres north of Mount Holly-Huntersville Road, to include the Cedar Mill community
»Whitehall, 665-acres southwest of the Charlotte, to include sections of the Whitehall and Renaissance Center business parks, the Villas at Laurel and Carrington Place communities
»Camp Stewart South, 1,480-acres along Albemarle and Harrisburg roads in East Charlotte, to include Lamplighter Village, Cedarbrook and Woodbury communities, J.H. Gunn Elementary School and the Wilgrove airport.
The initial cost of annexing these properties will be $502,747, which will cover startup costs for fire and solid-waste services. $158,749 of the initial cost will be set aside to provide economic loss payments for the volunteer fire departments serving those areas. The city will also assume a cost of $179,079 to qualified private solid-waste companies who service those areas. The costs for the water and sewer lines was previously factored into the city’s capital plan for the fiscal years 2011 through 2015. The annual revenue from the annexation is expected to be around $410,907 by 2013.
