Stallings' Rock Store Bar-B-Q, An Historic Landmark

Stallings Rock Store Bar-B-QStallings' Rock Store Bar-B-Q, An Historic Landmark

In the 1930's you had to travel for miles to arrive at the nearest 'filling station' if you passed the one in Stallings, which is now just outside Charlotte's city limits.  That was long before the southern part of Charlotte became such an 'attraction' for many families, formerly of Charlotte as well as those new to the community, looking for the big city activities but, a close-knit community with a small-town personality.

'The Rock Store' in Stallings, later became a convenience store where the locals met for ice cream and friendly conversation.

That is where the current owners, Bubba Chavis & Jay Mondock, both of whom are native to Stallings, became familiar with the building.  Former educators, these men decided to keep the historic building alive and open up a Bar-B-Q store as part-time jobs.  Bubba & Jay soon became busy with catering at the Rock Store BBQ and soon opened their doors to serve the public and made this their full time jobs!  The two are now planning to open two more Bar-B-Q stores in nearby towns and I'm sure will be the talk of the town when they do!

Stallings Rock Store Bar-B-Q

Stallings Rock Store Bar-B-QAs a southern gal, I can tell you that The Rock Store in Stallings has some of the best BBQ I've ever eaten!  You can add either the Western Sauce (made with ketchup) or the Eastern Sauce (vinegar based, without ketchup) and a multitude of homemade sides including their mouthwatering baked beans, mac & cheese, white and red coleslaw, brunswick stew or their delicious corn bread.  Top your dinner off with grandma's banana pudding that just brings back childhood memories.

Stop in Stallings Rock Store Bar-B-Que and taste for yourself; try the $5.50 sandwich combo--what a DEAL!

And don't forget to stop by the produce stand on your way out!  Take home a variety of fresh produce that is locally grown.

Walker Drug Store Charlotte NC

Walker Drug Store Charlotte NC

Walker Drugs Charlotte NCPurchased in 1970 by A. Artemes and Dan Lemelin, Rph, the small but, 'Andy Griffith' style pharmacy continued it's 50+ year heritage as the neighborhood pharmacy in Charlotte NC.  When working as a nurse, I referred SO many patients and their families to Walker Drug Store because of the reputation that they had of giving personal service, second to none.  Even after retiring over 10 years ago from nursing, I can still remember their phone number (704.364.3444) because I gave it out so much--and perhaps from calling them to order for anyone who needed immediate assistance from the pharmacy!

The pharmacy, started in 1918 by Theodore A. Walker, Rph, served the growing community of Charlotte as they do today.  In 1999, Artemes retired and Dan's son, Jeff (also a Registered Pharmacist) took the helm with his father.  Together they continued the tradition of giving unsurpassed customer service to the community, including delivery of medicine to those who are unable to get out to pick up their medicine themselves.  Last November, my husband had three surgeries and I was scrambling to get him home and settled in when the doorbell rang and it was Dan himself--delivering Ray's meds that the hospital had ordered upon discharge.  He was 'passing by' on his way home and knew that since the store had closed for the evening, we would be needing Ray's medicine before the morning when they opened.  Now, that is service!

Walker Drugs Charlotte NCWalker Drug Store has expanded to open a new store in the Ballantyne area of Charlotte, which is in keeping with the old pharmacy in Cotswold Charlotte NC.  I still love going by the old Cotswold Walker Drug Store to pick up meds for my hubby and grabbing an old fashioned bag of candy to eat on the way home!  The store offers their pharmacy, of course, as well as personal assistance with any questions or needs you may have regarding their over-the-counter products.  They supply some home health care needs as well as offer a shipping area where you can drop off your packages or have them wrapped to ship.  There is always plenty of staff there to take care of your needs and they know everyone by name when you walk through the door!

I'm certain that T.A. Walker, the store's founder, would never have imagined that his dream had grown and blossomed right along with the community--Walker Drug Store in Charlotte NC has grown with the community and each and every time you go through their doors, you feel like you're visiting a close friend!
