Charlotte NC Uptown Fourth Ward

First Methodist Church Fourth Ward Charlotte NC

Historic Fourth Ward is comprised of the the northwest quadrant of Charlotte's Uptown area which was resurrected in the mid-1800s and was one of the more prosperous areas of town, providing homes to local merchants, physicians and ministers.  The First Methodist, First Presbyterian, and St. Peters Episcopal Churches are all part of the Historic Fourth Ward and by the 1900's, became nearly desolate as many residents moved to the 'suburbs' of Dilworth and Myers Park.

Historic Home in Fourth Ward

Many of the beautiful Victorian homes were either destroyed or became commercial buildings and by 1970, Fourth Ward had fallen into a state of neglect. The late 20th century brought restoration to Fourth Ward which is now a thriving part of Charlotte's Uptown.

Fourth Ward Uptown Charlotte NC Map

The area, located between Trade Street to the south, 11th Street to the north, Graham Street to the west and Tryon Street to the east, is considered the residential district of Charlotte's Uptown.  History abounds at every corner in Fourth Ward and even new construction just keeps going vertical in Charlotte NC's Uptown Fourth Ward area!

Plan a visit to the Center City and see all of the sites, watch a professional basketball or football game, dine in style at any of Charlotte's exquisite restaurants.  While visiting the city, stay in the luxurious Dunhill Hotel.

Conveniently located in Uptown Charlotte, the
Dunhill Hotel is a historic landmark surrounded by the beauty and everyday activity of modern day Charlotte NC.  This hotel is an ideal choice for tourists and business visitors alike, mere steps from the new Bobcat's Arena (Time Warner Cable Arena), NC Blumenthal Center for the Performing Arts, Spirit Square, Discovery Place, Reid's Fine Foods, Overstreet Mall and many popular museums, theatres and restaurants.

The Dunhill Hotel

The Dunhill Hotel offers over 60 impeccably appointed rooms with unique amenities including jacuzzi whirlpool bath tubs, four poster beds, and award winning dining at the in-house Monticello Restaurant, Doeskin robes in all rooms, same-day dry cleaning service and executive communication service. The communication service includes 2-line phones, data ports, voice mail and, of course, high speed internet access in both the guest rooms and the public areas.

Don't forget about Fourth Ward Park while you're visiting!  Settler's Cemetary is also a history lesson in Charlotte Uptown Fourth Ward.  Just across the street from the historic cemetery stands the new 34-story AVE condo complex--the new meets the old in historic Fourth Ward.

It is good to know that the city did not allow the Fourth Ward to continue to fall into a state of dis-repair and neglect. And because of that it is a vibrant part of the community.

I'll always have a deep love of Victorians, and love the restorations...although those townhomes on Church St are really cute--and probably more within my budget! It all looks so inviting---and delicious! I like the featured restaurants. :-) Happy Day in Charlotte!

Debe,

Thanks for a terrific tour of this part of the city. Interesting how you say about the high-speed Internet in the hotel. Now it is "of course" in so many places, but just a few years ago it was such a rarity.

Just tells yo how fast things change. Luckily, restored communities and neighborhoods do not really changes that fast, and offer so much needed sense of stability.

Wow! What a beautifully done neighborhood/area post with businesses and other points of interest. I've bookmarked this to use as an example when I finally get around to doing these posts myself! Great Job!

Hey Debe, it's funny what other parts of the country refer to area. I've heard of "wards" in New Orleans, but apparently you have them in your area as well. Good localism post for the "fourth ward." ;-)

Debe, what a great post.  This makes me want to visit Charlotte and take in the sites.  Thanks for sharing your beautiful city.

Hi Everyone!  Sorry I have not commented individually but, this 1-handed typing is for the BIRDS!  Thanks for all of your wonderful comments and yes, Fourth Ward is definitely an area of Charlotte that is rich in history!  The Victorian homes are simply gorgeous but, the vast majority of the area has gone vertical.  I think that's why the single family homes in this area are so coveted!  This is a great area of Charlotte and when you visit, you simply must visit the Uptown area to see all that is in each of the four wards.

Thanks again and have a wonderful week...

Debe, I ended up on this post because I searched on how to add a photo to my blog. That took me to Jeremy, who had embedded a link to you. Beautifully done. I'd love to know what video program you're using, and where you upload the music. So very tastefully done, and enticing to buyers I would imagine.  Please share sources for your video effects and music used to showcase 701 N Church Street Unit #4, Charlotte, NC 28202. Thanks

Hi Sherry!  Thank you so much!  I use RealEstateShows.com where you can upload the photos, the write-up and the property details.  Then you select the flyer that you'd like (they have a variety but, I think the green flyer {called 'Modern Green'} looks the classiest).  You can also select to include music or not and there are variety of music selections as well.  I think the fee to Active Rain members is $99/year and is SO worth it!

I just noticed that the one that I used for this one was the VFlyer!  OOPS!  I go back and forth from RealBird to VFlyer.com to RealEstateShows--but, I do a Real Estate Show for every listing and generally place it here on AR.  The Vflyer has easy embed instructions also--again, I use the green color selection.

Hope this helps--please let me know if you have any other questions or need ANYTHING regarding Active Rain or blogging.

Have a wonderful weekend...

Wonderful! Would have taken me along time to discover those sites. I've got one in progress now--will email you when it's up. Give it a few days.  With all you do, thanks so much for taking time to pull sources and specifics together for me.
