Charlotte NC To Host The 2012 Democratic National Convention
Charlotte is pleased to announce that she's hosting the 2012 Democratic National Convention! Charlotte was selected from the smaller pool of finalists cities: St. Louis, Cleveland and Minneapolis. Whatever your political affiliation may be, this is great news for the Queen City!
The convention will be held at the Bobcats' Time Warner Cable Arena during the week of September 3, 2012.
The First Lady said she and the President are, "Thrilled to be bringing the convention to Charlotte. All the contending cities were places that Barack and I have grown to know and love, so it was a hard choice."
North Carolina was a critical state for Democrats in the last presidential election (2008), being one that Obama won by only a fine margin of 50 to 49% against Republican Senator John McCain.
The Republican National Convention will take place in Tampa, FL in 2012, the last week in August, just one week prior to the DNC.
Thanks to Mayor Anthony Foxx, Senator Kay Hagan, Governor Bev Perdue, and all of Charlotte's leaders who have helped to make this happen for the Queen City!

Debe,
I think this is relatively good news for Charlotte, though my political alliances are on the other side of the aisle. Truth be told, I'm more of a centrist, hoping that both parties will come together to tackle some of our deeply grave problems. Good for Charlotte! g
Debe - I just read about this on my facebook! This is really good news for the Queen City. What do you think, Debe? As a Realtor, having your City in the 'spotlight' like that has got to be a good thing!
Thats great economic news for Charlotte. Kinda like getting the Olympics....All hail the Queen, (city that is).
Debe, this is good news for Charlotte, but like #1, my political alliances are on the other side of the aisle, as are my sisters who live in Charlotte. I know they will not like the traffic it will bring to the city. They could however just leave the city and come visit me in WV. :-)
Debe, I'm with you. It doesn't matter what party you belong to, this event will bring much attention to our state, along with an infusion of some much needed revenue. Congratulations to Charlotte and the entire state of North Carolina. I'm thrilled.
Definitely will help economically the Charlotte area and maybe spill over to the rest of NC.
Congratulations to your city. It is very exciting news and should bring good things for Charlotte.
Debe: What an awesome event for your fair city to have "landed." I am betting that the Democrats will be putting on quite a show. How wonderful for the Queen City. And... perhaps some of the visitors to the city who come for the Convention... may just decide to move there permanently. Cool !
Charlotte is definitely being put on the map lately what with new businesses coming in and not the DNC. It will be party time.
Hmm, will they decide to stay there permanently? Only if their candidate loses the election and chooses that city?
We were so tired from the last campaign and soo it is coming again.
John, I agree with you. The last "campaign"... which was more like a double bull-fight... left me feeling drained as well.
Debe,
You have such reason to be proud of Charlotte! This is a great plus. Sure, traffic will be a bit bogged down during the convention but the excitement will make it worthwhile. Hats off.
Debe I am not sure any political campaign is worth having - too much hoopla and not really enough business. I don't know if much long lasting publicity is gained, either
Sure didn't help Denver. Good Luck. Not sure it's a "good thing."
