30th Annual Yiasou Greek Festival in Charlotte SEPT 8 - 11 (THURS - SUN)

Charlotte’s Greek Festival Celebrates It’s 30th Year This Week!

Greek Festival Charlotte 2011 300x201 30th Annual Charlotte Yiasou Greek Festival SEPT 8 11, 2011 The 30th annual Yiasou Greek Festival is going to be larger than ever!  Visitors from all around come to savor the culture of their Green ancestors:  culture abounds, ranging from art, clothing and jewelry to food and music.

Inside Dilworth’s Holy Trinity Greek Cathedral – Be sure to take the tour!  As you enter, light a candle and pay respect to the icons as you tour the breathtaking cathedral, which was built in 1951.

Charlotte’s Greek Festival has grown to one of the largest festivals in the state.  The colorful culture is kept alive year after year and the entire community enjoys the celebration as they come in droves–to the tune of about 40,000!

Some visit the festival every day just for the food!  Gyros, pitas, baklava, Greek wine… and more are cooked by parishioners, using their ancestor’s coveted recipes and served by hundreds of volunteers.

The Yiasou Festival in Charlotte has been the recipient of several awards over recent years including:

• Best International Event – Charlotte Magazine in 2009

Debe - It looks like a bad time to start a diet. I love Greek food, but I know it sticks to me. This is a great localism post.

Good morning Debbie,

Greek food is wonderful and is meant to be enjoyed with large groups of family and friends! Having a festival is such a great way to celebrate Greek food and their culture. Thanks for a great Localism post!!
