Charlotte NC Uptown Lifestyle--Quite the Walkable Community
I spend quite a bit of time in Charlotte's Uptown--showing condos, dining, going to plays and fundraising events and simply savoring the ability to just park my car and walk. There are few communities in the city that are so walkable as Uptown Charlotte NC. Some Uptown residents don't even own a car; others who do, would never consider hopping into their car simply to run a quick errand.
Suffice it to say, nearly anything that you would need in Uptown Charlotte can be found within a 2-mile radius which is called the I-277 inner loop. There's the Harris Teeter grocery store, located in one of Fourth Ward's favorite complexes, Fifth and Poplar. The Bank of America Stadium, home of our Carolina Panters, is located in Charlotte's Third Ward. First Ward is home to the Time Warner Cable Arena, where our Charlotte Bobcats play and many concerts are events are held.
There's a newer CVS and Dunkin Donuts, Bank of America and Wachovia branches located in Uptown. A multitude of restaurants and night life is located within the loop as well as Third Ward's Johnson & Wales University. One of the newest features in Uptown Charlotte is the EpiCentre, located at the intersection of First and Second Wards, with a whole host of activities going on there every day of the week--from fine dining to bull-riding to elegant shows and upscale bowling at StrikeCity.
Many hotels call Uptown Charlotte home as well, including the new Ritz Carlton. If you're visiting Charlotte on business, chances are you'll be able to walk to work in the Uptown area but, if you're not, CATS (our public transportation) can take you as far out as Pineville via the LYNK light rail system.
Take an Uptown stroll on any given night and you'll see folks dining outside McCormick & Schmick's or running into the funky burrito joint, Phat Burrito, grabbing a genuine New York pizza at Fuel or even rooting for their favorite sports team at Tavern on the Tracks. Many residents and visitors alike, enjoy a coffee at one of the many coffee shops inside the loop before heading for a fabulous show at the Blumenthal.
There's more to do in Charlotte Uptown than you can ever imagine and the great part is...you can walk everywhere! Savor the walkability of Uptown Charlotte NC--this just may be one of the most walkable areas in the country!
(THE best Charlotte home search available - no kidding!)

We often walk 3 miles in the morning and never pass a shop. Charlotte has so much to offer.

Your pride in your city of Charlotte really shows, Debe. I always enjoy the way you show us your neighborhoods.
We just love being minutes from Uptown and you're right, it IS very walkable. I need to spend some time over in the arts area near Tryon & MLK - I'm sure it has a name, but I don't yet know what that might be. We appreciate every one of these posts because they are helping us find our way in our new home city.
We miss you girl!
Debe,
The walkability of Uptown sounds awesome. We work with a ton of international clients and it's taught me a better approach. Being able to walk to more stuff would be a big consideration in my next home! There's only a limited number of communities in the US that you can do this and Uptown is awesome for Charlotte residents.
All the best, Michelle
What a terrific photo! Your local posts are always awesome, Debe, and a model for the reswt of us.
