BEEEAUTIFUL! But does it bother anyone else that all the sports areas and renamed after corporations? It's a peeve of mine.
I concur, Charlotte is a great City to walk around. Taking the light rail is also fun (I think that's what it is called!)
Debbie, love this localism post and your photos to go with it. For those ready to ditch the car, it sounds like a great place to live.
HI Debbie,
Walkability is for sure the big buzz word of the next few years, convenience, access to services and amenities and work all with in WALKING distance..... we are going back to medieval Europe....... welcome to the future ;)
Debe - I think laura's comment is interesting, doesn't she know that they pay a lot of money to the city for the right to put their names on those stadiums?
Debe,
Charlotte is a great community and the downtown area has really become better and better. I can remember years back when the downtown area was getting some really great features.
There certainly does seem to be a lot to do in Uptown Charlotte. I don't know how it was before, but it sounds exciting now.
Laura, Larry is right--these corporations pay a boatload of money for naming rights for a specified period of time. Now, we have Timewarner Cable Arena and Bank of America Stadium - both have corporate offices in the city so, we don't mind a bit that they're paying for these venues. At least we're getting something back from these hefty fees, right?!
Ellie, you're correct! The LYNX light rail system is fabulous and we LOVE having it here in our city.
Leah: Oh and it is! There are many who do that as well!
Nancy: GREAT options! Got a buyer? We've got some great deals in our Uptown right now!
Peter & Linda: Walkability--can't believe how far we've come with our uptown in the past 20 years! It's a whole new world and just so vibrant and convenient! I love Uptown Charlotte!
Larry B: You're so right--a ToN of money to have their name on the front of these venues!
Larry: And, you lived here when you didn't want to step foot out of your car up there unless you were headed into Ivey's! Things have changed so very much over the years--for the better, of course!
Jane: Oh, the change has been dramatic but, planned. It's been so much fun to watch our city grow as a result of this concentration in building our downtown--not Uptown area. For me, it's the most fascinating, vibrant area in the city.
Hi Debe - awesome post about the walkable areas of Charlotte - but the light rail sounds great too.
I would love to walk Charlotte sometime in the future. It's one of the many places that I would love to visit.
I can't decide if I want to live in Charlotte because it actually is a wonderful place or because you make it sound so terrific in your neighborhood posts. The Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Bureau should send you roses every day.
Debe - A walkable community like Uptown Charlotte is definitely the type of community I want to live in when my boys are older and out of the house.
Charlotte is awesome and living downtown is getting more popular these days!
Debe Uptown Charlotte sounds like an ideal seting for people who don't want to commute long idstances
Debe, I typically pass through there at least once a year. I need to stop in and see the downtown on my next journey through the area. I do love the Charlotte area.
That is a great post! So many attractive buildings! Hope you have a wonderful weekend! Stay Warm!
