The Little Birdie that Could - SouthPark Nature

The Little Birdie that Could (SouthPark Nature)

Ray was sitting out on the veranda this morning and watched this little baby fall from the nest. He kept trying to fly and finally got enough height to land on the fence's cross-bar. He tried and tried to fly off of the fence but, couldn't. The mother kept squawking at him and he just would not leave the fence. Ray called me outside and we watched for a few more minutes; still, he was not moving from his perch!

The little birdie that could

I thought I would go snap an up-close photo of him and as soon as I did, he mustered up the strength (or courage, not sure which one) to fly! We haven't seen any of his siblings leave the nest yet, nor have we seen him again - we hope he has flown off into the wild blue yonder...and lives happily ever after!

Living in SouthPark is a real treat - we live right in the very center of the city but, we are surrounded by nature. If you think you'd like to live in SouthPark, let's talk! I'm happy to give you the tour of our amazing community!

It's always neat to be able to watch a nest, and see birds take their first flight.

Posted by Myrl Jeffcoat, Greater Sacramento Real Estate Agent (GreatWest Realty) 5 months ago

Hi Myrl Jeffcoat! The last nest we had near our back porch, a black snake set up 'shop' and as soon as the little birdies left the nest, he was all over the first one.

We put a stop to that by keeping our dogs and cat or us out there all of the time...at least during the day and evening hours! The rest of the birds made it out safe & sound - thankfully!

Debe this reminds of a time when we discovered we had a nest of babies in a fake fern in the covered alcove.  It was at Easter time and I had boughten some wind up fluffy chicks for the breakfast table.  My sister was here and after eating we started playing with the wind up chicks. Guess what?  Once we quit winding up the chicks we heard a bunch of noise from the alcove.  What the heck is that????? The baby birds thought we were talking to them and starting chimming in.  It was so fun! Of course I had to watch over the baby  birds until they were out of the nest!!

Debe- I had the pleasure of watching baby robins being born a few years ago. They go so fast it is amazing. Love your pic.

Debe- the same thing happened to me today. One of our squirrels was sitting on a root at the bottom of the tree eating a peanut I'd given him. He looked so cute but by the time I grabbed my camera, he was on to better things. Glad he was able to fly away!

This reminds me how I finally forgave my mother for nagging at me as a child. I finally learned to fly.

Morning Debe.

Sometimes all one needs is just a little push to leave the nest, or fence in this case.

Good morning Debe Maxwell, CRS,

It's so fun to watch these little ones make their way into this world! Love that this little one mustered up the strength to fly off the fence!

Our baby birds have left the nest - and I have no idea about their fate. It's better that way. :)   Nice that you got a chance to see the little guy take his first successful flight. D

Hello Debe Maxwell,  I hope the others get up the nerve to follow the first one.  All it takes is the first step they always say!!!

Debe sooner or later we all need to leave the comfort of our nest and learn to fly

What a charming story, Debe Maxwell, CRS! Thank you very much for sharing. We should all stop and enjoy more moments like this in life. (This also reminds me of Petrie from "The Land Before Time" who was determined to fly and overcome his fears which - spoiler alert! - he did!). - Tim

Oh, what a cute story, Anna Banana Kruchten CRB, CRS 602-380-4886! We have done that before too - this nest was not where we could see it well but, we sure did hear them when they were hungry!

LOL Yes, our 'expanding family' has flown the coop, Roy Kelley!  So, we're back to 2 humans, 2 dogs and one cat who rules the roost in our household!

I hope they all made it, Will Hamm! We're not hearing any more babies chirping so, they've flown the coop now. I had to say a little prayer for them, you know!

I should have turned it to video but, it was so dark (with the sun in front of me) I didn't think it would show up. That would have been really cool though, Grant Schneider
