Thankfulness - 2018 - The Good Ole US of A

Thankfulness - 2018 - The Good Ole US of A

Today, I spent the morning with Lisa Von Domek exploring the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum while here in Boston. As we listened to the video, narrated by President Kennedy, we were both reminded of 'simpler' and very different times. Today, there is such divisiveness in our country (for which I am not thankful) but, it was so refreshing to hear how our country pulled together and whether we totally agreed or not, we supported what needed to be done to remain the powerful nation that we were and are today.

John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum

Being reminded, first of all, of the less complicated lives we led then - yes, as a child during the Kennedy presidency, it made me realize how differently our younger generation will remember these times. We should all be so very proud of the nation in which we are so very fortunate to live and be forever grateful for those who have and continue to serve our country each and every day...for our freedoms.

What a wonderful country in which we live - and what incredibly unique people we all are, regardless of our heritage. And how fortunate are we to live among such diversity?

Being a small business owner makes me appreciate, even more, living & working in these United States of America. After all, we are living 'The American Dream!'

God Bless the USA

God bless the United States of America.

Dear Debe,

Great thoughts. As flawed as this country started out, they still got the basics right, which is shown by our relative longevity & flexibility in changing times. Hashing out clear rules for doing business has certainly helped. It is more difficult to start one elsewhere, which is why recent arrivals often opt for going into business & do very well with it. Whatever the rules, you can sorta count on them.

It actually occurred to me recently that half the country would likely cheer if a president was assassinated in today's world.  I suppose it was the Kennedy anniversary that brought that thought to mind.  I remember how we all came together and prayed when Regan was shot.

Isn't that so sad, Tammy Lankford,? I have not liked a couple of our presidents but, respected the office and would have been as somber as the next person if either of them had been assassinated. I worry that generations after ours don't have the same respect that we do.

Agreed, Dörte Engel! Times, they are a changin' (for certain). I only wish we could go back to simplicity, care and support, regardless of the political affiliation. There is so much more we can do together than apart.

It was a wonderful tour of the John F. Kennedy Library Debe Maxwell, CRS and I agree (and am saddened) at your comment of what would occur if we lost our President today the way the Nation lost Kennedy.  Reading the quotes he made, I know that President Kennedy would not recognize his party today and would be saddened by its evolution.

Morning Debe.

Yes the good old times, when life was simple.  Going to vote today, to avoid the crowd

Good morning Debe. The 60's were a simpler time and currently we have chaos. Maybe it's time to stop and think! You had a great tour partner! Enjoy your day!

Good morning Debe.  This is one thing that those of us who live here should never take for granted.

Good morning Debe. I am glad to live where I do but do not recognize my country anymore. It starts with how we as individuals react to the trials we now live with. Our current leader is an ass and I am embarrassed by him daily and people around the world have lost respect for us all. I hope tomorrow changes things.

Debe the times we grew up in were much different than today, especially politically.  The attitude use to be as President Kennedy said "What we can do for our County, and not what our country can do for us."  Today it is how do we resist the other side even if it means destroying a mans life with false accusations.  It is twisting someones words to make them appear to be racist, just because we do not like there tone.  It is promoting violence and hate, and then not taking responsibility for the consequences as the new media has become so good at doing.  It is win for the political party, no matter what the cost.  And of course if you lose, don't accept the loss, just blame the rules that you were OK with before you lost.

I agree with Lisa Von Domek, if President Kennedy was to come back today "he

would not recognize his party today and would be saddened by its evolution."

Sorry this is my rant for the year.  Now you have a sparkling day

Debe- I don't know if you remember the old ad with the little girl saying how simple life used to be but I think that all of the time. I echo your sentiments that this is the greatest country and we have a heart and soul that cannot be surpassed.

Hi Debe, We went there this afternoon and enjoyed it a lot. He had so many famous quotes and wise words. So sad that his time was cut short. What could he have done with more time?

I miss the days of the Kennedy Royalty and the unity this country had....the

atmosphere now cannot be blamed on one party...

Our history can teach us so much, yet we tend to easily forget.  I share your same sentiments, and agree, as small business owners, we are living the American dream.

Hi Debe Maxwell, CRS - those times people accepted results after elections and we where one people.  Different times.

Debe Maxwell, CRS and Lisa Von Domek - I really would have enjoyed "exploring the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum," with both of you. But I'm afraid I would have broken down and cried because of everything going on during these American times as a result of movements many of which I don't agree with, accusations, the violence, and pages of history being rewritten. And I'm very uncomfortable with the people who are supposed to entertain us but now think they are the experts in politics. I don't blame our present Administration because I have always respected whoever was in office, even when I did not agree or vote for someone in a different party. All this finger pointing makes our country look very bad and personally, I think that's a big mistake. I was in Japan during the news about Monica Lewinsky and President Clinton. I was at a train station when the news came on and all the Japanese people were laughing at what our President was being accused of at that time. I felt so ashamed and humiliated. I don't understand how we got this way and why things continue to go so bad.

United we stand.... divided we fall. I am falling to me knees on a daily basis praying for our President, our military, our schools, education, citizens, seniors, the people in need of health care that can't afford it, students to get jobs, and for America to get out of $21,697,502,722,083.00 in debt which this Administration has inherited from the past.

Debe - please feel free to delete this comment if you choose and I won't be offended.
