Americans Rank Real Estate Best Investment for 6 Years Running

Americans Rank Real Estate Best Investment for 6 Years Running

Like stocks, home values dropped dramatically during the recession but, have rebounded and are worth more now than before The Great Recession. Americans who do not own either - stocks or real property - are more inclined to see real estate (31%) as a better investment than stocks (18%), while 23% choose savings accounts or CDs.

Here’s how Americans rank investments (not just those listed above who do not own real property or stocks):

Charlotte Investors Prefer Real Estate

*Infographic provided by Keeping Current Matters (KCM)

Additional Highlights:

  • Even with the major U.S. stock indices establishing or nearing record highs in 2019, real estate remains the investment of choice.
  • Real estate has outranked stocks/mutual funds, gold, savings accounts/CDs, and bonds as the best long-term investment among Americans for 6 years running.
  • Perceptions have shifted - stock investors continue to be more positive about real estate than stocks as an investment.
  • Stock ownership is steady but, still has not returned to the number of Americans who were invested in the stock market pre-recession.
  • Of the 4 listed, real estate is the only investment you can also live in!
  • And, as Warren Buffet once said, "Never pay another man's mortgage."

Morning Debe.

Can't argue with the facts.  Now, if only the general public would reach out to us, to learn how they can share the American dream

Debe: I hope the trend continues. Owning real estate is a solid investment option...good to see so many others think so too.

Hello Debe - it's tangible.  And that's important. This reinforces a positive message about real estate.

Good morning Debe Maxwell, CRS ,

I love this post..its hard to debate facts. What I really love is your statement..real estate is the only investment you can live in!!

With today's rocky stock market, a personal home or investment property is a great alternative way to build wealth. Thanks for sharing!

Good morning Debe. Unless you are blessed with investment acumen and continuous research time, real estate is your best bet for accumulating wealth. Enjoy your day!

I have to agree with Warren Buffet...I do prefer when people pay MY mortgage instead of vice versa.

Hello Debe,  Great information for buyers and people in our country to know about.  Can I reblog this in a couple of weeks?

Well, you know that I couldn't agree more, Anita Clark! We have a lot of inventory to add before we can even begin to THINK recessionary terms. It just makes no sense how these talking heads come up with their sensationalistic conclusions!

Posted by Debe Maxwell, CRS, Charlotte Homes for Sale - Charlotte Neighborhoods (www.iCharlotteHomes.com | The Maxwell House Group | RE/MAX Executive | (704) 491-3310) 4 months ago

It is and as I was saying to Anita, just based on the calculations we have in our slowest of markets here, it would take a SOLID 5 years even to come to a neutral market. How on earth do some come to the recessionary conclusion? It just makes no mathematical sense to me, Michael Jacobs! OH and it should to anyone else either - they just don't take the time to do the math...or they prefer scaring John Q; I'm not sure which it is!

Posted by Debe Maxwell, CRS, Charlotte Homes for Sale - Charlotte Neighborhoods (www.iCharlotteHomes.com | The Maxwell House Group | RE/MAX Executive | (704) 491-3310) 4 months ago

In or physically 'ON,' right, Dorie Dillard CRS GRI ABR?!  You can't debate the facts but, somehow the talking heads have found a way to convince the public that a recession is on the horizon! It doesn't compute to me and if the public would do the math, it wouldn't to them either!

Hope you and Geno have a wonderful weekend, Dorie! Keeping the prayers flowing your way. ❤️

Absolutely, Matthew Klinowski, PA! Funny but, when I hear from anyone how their investments are down, I always retort with, "Oh, I'm sure you're not talking about your real estate investments!" LOL

Hey, if we only educte one person a day, we're doing that one person a huge favor, right, Matthew?!

You know, I see my husband worry over stock investments - that just doesn't happen with real estate, Wayne Martin! There you go - another solid reason to focus on real estate investments - less stress! 😉

At this point, it surely is, isn't it, Ron Barnes? I'm ever so thankful we're beyond that. We've certainly had nearly a decade of a vastly improving market...again, another reason to be thankful!

People and stocks, Richie Alan Naggar! Every now and then my hubby and I will reminisce about some of the stocks that we once owned and wonder, what on earth we were thinking! LOL

Hi Mike Easton! I'm all about someone else making those payments - no doubt! If only they would pay my primary mortgage! LOL

Posted by Debe Maxwell, CRS, Charlotte Homes for Sale - Charlotte Neighborhoods (www.iCharlotteHomes.com | The Maxwell House Group | RE/MAX Executive | (704) 491-3310) 4 months ago

Hi L. Scott Ferguson! Really, is anything else needed here than an AMEN?!!

Enjoy your weekend...

As I always remind my hubby - we're not selling soon - we're in this for the long-haul. By the time we're ready sell, we'll be in the black and beyond!

I hope how soon that 25% is absorbed, John Henry!

Just to quinch my thirst for data, John, did you build (was your home new construction)? That seems to be the largest segment here that first found themselves in a hole (at the beginning of the recession) and it took them the longest to come out of it too.

Thank you, Will Hamm and, of course you can re-blog it! I'd be honored!

Enjoy your weekend, George!

The ROI from RE investing in exceptional L3 properties has usually always outperformed the stock market when you factor using leverage of COC with the total ROI. Investors who buy and hold their stocks would IMO get a better return in RE investing.

I specialize in investment real estate.  I can vouch for that statement!

People who do not own either - stocks or real property - are more inclined to see real estate (31%) as a better investment than stocks (18%), while 23% choose savings accounts or CDs.

Posted by Sham Reddy CRS, CRS (H E R Realty, Dayton, OH) 4 months ago

I agree wholeheartedly, Kimo! My husband has more hesitation about real estate than I do - for some reason, the non-tangible stock market appeals to him more! LOL

Our plan is and has always been to buy and hold. As you said, the return is almost ALWAYS higher with RE than stocks, Kimo Jarrett
