Homeownership Will Always Be a Part of the American Dream

Homeownership Will Always Be a Part of the American Dream

Each Labor Day we celebrate hard work and, for many, the achievement of the American Dream.

Homeownership for Charlotteans

Growing up, many of us thought about our future lives with great ambition. We drew pictures of what we thought we would 'be' when we grew up; my girlfriends and I always dreamed of Prince Charming and starting a family!  And, we always seemed to love drawing pictures of houses - of course, the ones with smoke coming out of the chimney and the white picket fence out front! Remember that?

Today we celebrated the workers that make this country a place where those dreams can truly become a reality. Hard work that occurs every day across this country, allows so many to achieve the American Dream.

The National Association of Realtors (NAR) does an extensive survey each year and the 2019 Aspiring Home Buyers Profile offers this tidbit: 9 in 10 current homeowners believe that homeownership is part of the American Dream.

Increasing home prices and low inventory are solid reasons why some homebuyers haven’t yet realized the American Dream. In fact, (as shown in the graph below), at the end of 2018, 84% of non-homeowners surveyed, DO want to own a home

Each quarter, more and more Americans aspire to buy a home. So, instead of fearing the worst (recession), focus on the fact that as more inventory hits the market, more non-homeowners will finally be able to fulfill their American Dream.

At least in my life time Debe, awesome post.  On the other hand, I do see a trend in the highly over priced markets where the champagne taste prevent the home buying and there is an army of tenants who will never become home owners unless they change their tastes or their locations:)Endre

Morning Debe.

Except for about 6 months out of the 51+ years we've been married, we have always owned a home.  It is the American dream

Debe the dream of owning your own home, and the pride that comes with it, is in my opinion an everlasting one.

It’s hard for people to stay positive when it comes to outlook and the way the news is and all that, So I think you’re right in that staying positive is a major accomplishment to be celebrated! Debe Maxwell, CRS

Changing taste and/or locations is tough for some buyers, Endre Barath, Jr. but, sometimes that is exactly what it takes!

I think that so many are catching up to the ability to have that financial stability due to college loans, it's taking longer for some than it did when we were buying our first homes. I wish they would teach money management in high school like they used to, Barbara Todaro

And, thank you, Endre! It's been lifelong for me too - and I'm so thankful our parents instilled that in us!

You just can't listen to the news - any of it! Sensationalism sells and that's what they thrive on. I thrive on truth and life...and positivity, Laura Cerrano!

I'm helping someone now - they want a place but, needed some help to qualify. Parents stepped in and they found that their home mortgage is going to be about 30% LESS than the rent they are currently paying. It's nice to have familial support and/or a family than does have the ability to help, Grant Schneider.

Oh boy! You hit the nail on the head with that, Barbara Todaro

I'm surprised they didn't have it where you were - we had to take economics and money management. We learned how to use checkbook registers and balance accounting books! I remember the ledgers but, not a whole lot else from the class - other than my teacher! 😉
