Happy Valentine's Day - What's Love Got to Do with It?

Happy Valentine's Day - What's Love Got to Do with It?

Give with heart

Tomorrow I will, with a heavy heart, be celebrating the life of a dear friend who suffered sudden cardiac arrest last week and at 58, left his loving wife a widow at a very young age. My heart aches terribly for my friend left behind, dealing with tremendous grief. Just thinking of Valentine’s Day and what it means to us in our younger years (and for most of our lives), must be overwhelming to many among us.

In recent years, I’ve become more aware of those like my friend who may no longer have significant others in their lives to celebrate the day. While Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love, it is the perfect opportunity for us to reconnect with the true meaning of this day. It is about love, sharing and giving.

Love is what makes us human; love is what makes life worth living. If you think about it, nothing else really matters. The size of our homes, our bank accounts, the number of likes we get on Facebook, the brand of our car – none of those things really matter.

Let us use the occasion of Valentine’s Day for us all to focus on what we can actually give of ourselves. It is really not about us – it is about others and what we can do for others, give to others and how much love we can share with others.

Here are a few great quotes for Valentine's Day...

Love is our true destiny. We do not find the meaning of life by ourselves alone - we find it with another.

~Thomas Merton

They invented hugs to let people know you love them without saying anything.

~Bil Keane

A heart is not judged by how much you love, but by how much you are loved by others.

~Frank Morgan

Morning Debe.

You are correct, it's all about love, both giving and receiving.  It's worked for me for 52 years

Thanks for sharing, Happy Valentine's day!!!

While Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love, it is the perfect opportunity for us to reconnect with the true meaning of this day.

It is about love, sharing and giving.

Good morning Debe. I am sorry for your loss. Your friend is lucky to have you in her life. I hope you and Ray have a great day too.

Good morning, Debe... what a terrible story and I'm so sorry to hear about your friend's death. Your message about Valentine's Day being more than just a day for lovers is wonderful. Love can extend way past that one someone special and envelope many people in our lives in many different ways.

Good morning, Debe Maxwell, CRS I'm so sorry for your loss.... Your friend is very fortunate to have as "loving a friend" as you.... Happy Valentine's Day to you and Ray...  and all of your gang of pet-like family members....

I am sorry to hear about your friend's death, and I'm sending warm thoughts to his wife. I agree with your message about the heart. It's more than just between two people; it's about sharing our love selflessly.

Hello Debe - while any death is sad, there is a learning lesson in your post about reaching out to others to show our love, our appreciation and our gratitude for those "things" they provide us beyond the material.

Debe,

What a lovely post, and a great reminder to live and love in the now, and not be concerned about all the stuff!  What sustains us is love. A

Love is the answer. It really is. I’m so sad to hear about the loss of your friend. A death does put things into perspective.

We also have a heavy heart today. We have one employee in the hospitsl for pneumonia and one facing the removal of a brain tumor next week. Be grateful for being healthy today.

Debe, I am so sorry to hear of your loss of your friend.  I always try to be kind to people and think I will never see them again.

I am so sorry to hear about your friend's husband. I appreciate your message about being aware of those who have lost loved ones and how difficult it can be when everyone else is celebrating.  The truth is, there is lots of love to be spread far and wide, not just with our significant others.

Happy Valentines Day Debe and Ray!

Sham Reddy CRS - it's about spreading the love, giving and recognizing that we are only renting our time here - SAVOR it and pass it on!

Posted by Debe Maxwell, CRS, The right Charlotte REALTOR! (www.iCharlotteHomes.com | The Maxwell House Group | RE/MAX Executive | (704) 491-3310) 8 months ago

We've worked together for years and I adore her and did her husband as well. It's a terrible loss for our Realtor® community here, Sheila Anderson.

Posted by Debe Maxwell, CRS, The right Charlotte REALTOR! (www.iCharlotteHomes.com | The Maxwell House Group | RE/MAX Executive | (704) 491-3310) 8 months ago

Indeed, Nina Hollander - we've commercialized the holiday far beyond it's real meaning but, then again, we often have a habit of doing that with every holiday!

Did you ever attend our REBar camps here? Michael (the one who died) and I spear-headed bringing it to Charlotte. We worked together to put the event on for years. He was amazing to work with. SO many in our community will have huge holes in our hearts for years to come.

You're so kind, Barbara Todaro! It was a dear friend and peer that I've done cross sales with, developed marketing plans with and wound up working together for years, planning & putting on REBar camps here in Charlotte. He will be terribly missed by our Realtor® community as he was very well-respected.

"Sharing our love selflessly" - I couldn't have said it better myself, Kat Palmiotti!

Enjoy your day - spread the love!

If anyone reading this will understand where I'm coming from, it's you, Michael Jacobs. Not everyone gives generously of themselves - there are people in need all around us who would never think to ask for anything.

Paying attention to unspoken words (or 'listening between the lines' as I like to call it), helps us find those people in need. The key is, doing something about it!

Spread the love today & everyday!

You're so right - it is love that sustains us, Ron and Alexandra Seigel! It doesn't cost us a thing to share it either!

Posted by Debe Maxwell, CRS, The right Charlotte REALTOR! (www.iCharlotteHomes.com | The Maxwell House Group | RE/MAX Executive | (704) 491-3310) 8 months ago

We've had so many friends who have had medical issues, the loss of a child and this sudden cardiac death this year - it's definitely eye-opening, Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD.

This was a dear friend and fellow Realtor® with whom I've worked for years and was so well-respected and loved in our community. It's definitely hard saying good-bye but, he lived an amazing life and we will celebrate that tomorrow. As well, we'll take our lessons and put them to work for others - giving, caring, loving. It's the least we can do to in honor or him.

Oh my goodness, Joe Pryor - those are BIG things to be going through. I was thinking of you yesterday with all of the travel you do, wondering if you're laying low for a few months until this Coronavirus runs its course?

YES! You get it, Carol Williams! Exploring ways to help those in need and doing random acts of kindness is a great way to start spreading the love. And, we don't need a significant other to do that!

No and I cannot imagine what she is going through right now - and to be going through it for this holiday! I say, focus on giving, sharing and spreading the love to all.  Sharon Lee, I hope you have a lovely day!

Debe Maxwell, CRS

Although your heart is heavy, what I positively love about it is the love you share for your friend and the compassion you feel for his spouse. That message needs to get out. I could say that because I was one of the forgotten ones in my early 30s with young children. Holidays, birthays, and anniversaries are very hard on spouses without spouses.

I know you will continue to be mindful, thoughtful, and loving always.

Thank you, Bob Crane. Between the craziness that is our current real estate market right now, I was able to join family & friends this weekend for a celebration of life for him. He will be terribly missed.

Sadly, we can too, Grant Schneider! It seems to come with age. We really do need to always remember to let those who we care about, KNOW we do! Life is so incredibly short.

Speaking with her this weekend, she really has such a strong support group and I am so happy for her. We did talk about heading out and having a glass of wine together and she joked that sadly, everyone was bringing food to her house and all she really wants is someone to have a glass of wine with her.

That will be taken care of the day family leaves town - you know I'll make sure of that, Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP

I love that quote too, Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, CRS - so much so, I made a meme to highlight it!

It's true though - a sincerely loving heart is truly palpable - and greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much, Endre Barath, Jr. It was such a tough weekend - she had also lost her father and buried him two weeks ago. I cannot even begin to imagine what she is going through and you're SO right - things like this make you realize that little petty things are just not worth time spent on them!

Hope you have a wonderful week ahead!
