Not Speechless At All Sundays! Cookin' with Gas

Not Speechless At All Sundays!  Cookin' with Gas

Due to issues with manufacturing and COVID back-orders, we had a devil of a time getting our hood/vent completed and is wasn't until recently that we FINALLY got our hood/vent installed.

The house had an electric cooktop (I cannot cook with electric - I forgot how!) with a downdraft that was exhausting into the cabinet beneath the cooktop! One of the first things we did was rip out the cooktop and downdraft and install the same (but, smaller) range that we had in our last house. The range has a grill on it and required a 30" space between the gas burners and the bottom of the vent.

WELL, the bottom of the cabinet was already 30" so, we had to remove the cabinet and install a chimney style hood/vent. It took us SIX WEEKS to get the new vent and hood! While we waited for it, we could not use our grill - which about killed me because I use it at least every other day!

Changes to this area include:

  • Cabinet above & beneath cooktop removed, removing downdraft vent & replaced cooktop with gas range
  • Chimney hood/vent installed
  • Hardwoods refinished
  • Cabinet hardware replaced
  • Walls & trim painted (YES! It was GREEN!)
  • Tile backsplash removed/replaced
  • Granite replaced

Electric is for non cooks or people who have a lot of time to cook:)) I have always been a Gas Chef.... must admit I did have an electric stove a hundred years ago and oh boy I never want to relive those years:)Endre

Morning Debe.

Our range is electric, it took a long time to learn how to use it.  I prefer gas, but it is what it is

Hello Debe - I had to chuckle(more than a bit) as I read the comment by Endre Barath, Jr.   I have had electric cooktops in my kitchens for a long time --- further underscoring my status as a non-cook.  As if anyone needed additional evidence.   Haha

I am happy to read of this change which will likely make you even happier in your new home.

Hi Debe Maxwell, CRS - oh yes, now you are cooking.  You have a professional cooks kitchen with a real hood!

Ha! Endre Barath, Jr. I remember having an electric range about 3 decades ago and I never learned to cook on that thing! Like you, I am a gas chef through and through!

I love seeing before and after pictures!  I am glad you finally got your hood/vent situation resolved and the cooking will be phenomenal.

I hear you, James Dray! We were ripping cabinets out in order to make our home accessible for Ray and the two items there were must-haves for me - my gas range and 2-drawer dishwasher. I will say I was pretty adamant about not having to learn to cook on an electric cooktop again!

Oh, now that is funny, Michael Jacobs! I've heard buyers say that they've never cooked with anything other than electric and I really never thought they weren't chefs. Now, I'll always question their culinary skills when they say that, thanks to you & Endre Barath, Jr.!

I had a chimney style hood in my last house and really never minded that we would have one under the cabinet here, Grant Schneider. I will admit that I like this better than the under-cabinet one we originally purchased!

I am really loving being able to use the grill on my range now, Brian England. I feel like I'm back to cooking now!

I bet some very tasty meals are going to be cooked from that set up.

Well that explains why I have electric. Not a chef. I did however have a gas stove in my home in N.Y. but I still wasn't a chef.  That range hood is huge.

Hey there Debe Maxwell, CRS what a great transformation. Love the backblash for a great contrast.

Debe that was a crazy long wait time, but the end result looks beautiful.

I know Ray hopes so too, Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543! LOL I had this same range at my old house and really did appreciate having an indoor grill - year-round!

LOL Sharon Lee - I had never heard that before but, I will say that electric seems more challenging to me than gas!

Thank you, Rocky Dickerson! I was not a fan of the other backsplash! I would have been fine keeping it for several years if they had installed gas prior to selling the house. But, I really do like the black better!

Hi George Souto! I offered one of my clients use of my washer and dryer recently when they were told it would be 8 more weeks before they got the ones they wanted. They sold their washer & dryer with their home and when they moved to Charlotte, the seller hadn't left their washer & dryer. They were wishing they hadn't let theirs go with their old house!

I did without a hood/vent for 6 weeks but, couldn't imagine not having a washer & dryer for that long!

I can't imagine! We ripped that out with the kitchen remodel so, I never got the opportunity to try the electric. But, I can tell you that when we are on vacation, all of the condos we stay in seem to have electric cooktops - I have THE most trouble cooking on them! I can understand the challenge, Kathy Streib

We have electric in our vacation condo, and it's always such a shock to "learn" how to cook things.

When we remodeled our kitchen this year, we replaced the old electric with a gas one...we had to install a propane tank for it as there is no natural gas available out here in the sticks. Lol. We also have trouble using electric stoves...I love the red knobs on your Wolf, it's such a signature look for that brand.
